The Interactive Media Arts and Business Program at NYU Shanghai and related majors are focused on exploring the expressive possibilities brought about by emerging forms of media, technology, and communication. Through a project-based curriculum students work with hardware and software to develop experimental physical and screen-based interactive projects.
The students, faculty, and staff depend on the smooth operation of our technology and spaces to do their work. The Studio Associate will support all aspects of the space of the department, studios, labs, classrooms, equipment and resources etc. under the supervision of Technology and Operations Manager, to ensure safe and efficient operations for students and faculty.
The role of Studio Associate is to function as a key partner for student and faculty members, and ensure an efficient, continuous operation as well as daily equipment maintenance. Help foster a responsive and adept support structure to promote the high efficient services in teaching, learning, research and administration activities. Work both individually and as part of a support team.
Under the supervision of Technology and Operations Manager the main responsibilities of a Studio Associate mainly includes but not limited to:
Daily Operation Support (30%)
- Support the daily operations during routine hours, as well as occasional additional events or curriculum requirements.
- Perform daily maintenance routines to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive lab space and classroom environment.
- Respond to all user-requests as well as develop action plans to resolve the issues timely and effectively.
- Provide on-site support and services for lab, daily class and program-related events including lab supplies, equipment, critical sample storage, program level events etc.
- Support various teams with multiple projects and events.
- Interface with Facilities, Property Management and Public Safety for lab infrastructure, risk management and other internal departments for lab related requests etc. Act as a HSE coordinator in the lab to ensure safety.
Equipment Management and Maintenance (30%)
- Support of the Equipment Center, system, equipment and related resources, and ensure the protection of assets through oversight of regular inventory and maintenance. Equipment includes digital media equipment such as cameras and laptops, as well as hand tools, and electronic components, etc.
- Report of the status of equipment and materials on a regular basis.
- Responsibility for the day to day support and service, maintenance, and inventory of all equipment, tools and supplies on a regular basis to ensure they are in good working order.
- Assist end users in preparation of teaching and instructional materials/equipment, including but not limited to audio visual aids, materials, tools, equipment etc.
- Work with students and faculty in the training and use of equipment and resources.
- Develop and maintain guidelines and SOPs of using lab & classroom resources and equipment etc.
- Be responsible for the day to day support and maintenance of all equipment and devices. This includes, but not limited to:
- Various University, program-related and Lab Internal systems
- Digital media and audio/visual equipment (e.g. wireless microphone, speaker, amplifiers, webcam, projector, sound system, recorder, camera, headset etc.)
- Various hardware and software.
- Various electronics components, sensors, boards etc. (e.g. transistor, resistor, capacitor, motor, LED, diode, buzzer, breadboard, etc.)
- Hand tools (e.g. soldering kit, helping hand, wire stripper, multimeter, etc.)
- Wood shop (includes saws, sanders, drills, etc.)
Program-Related Procurement (10%)
- Assist in daily procurement needs.
- Assist faculty and students in their courses and research requirements regarding finding the best-fit solutions of equipment/devices etc., in order to meet our daily teaching requirements.
- Process purchasing and maintenance of equipment and components etc.
Teaching and Learning Support (20%)
- Maintain existing services and solutions (including classroom and general equipment, etc.) as well as new services development.
- Propose daily solutions to improve the equipment and resources of the department. Investigate, research, explore, develop, and deliver new service and solutions of the systems and equipment etc. to well support daily teaching and learning requirements.
- Prepare and set up the Labs and classrooms as well as implement classroom daily preventative maintenance checks before commencement of class.
- Daily support and maintenance of equipment and classroom devices, including but not limited to audio-visual systems, digital media equipment in classrooms and labs as well as equipment, tools or machines in the Equipment Center etc.
- Analyze and diagnose equipment issues and initiate appropriate client response as well as corrective action.
- Create, update and maintain equipment user guide. Train and assist faculty/students in the use of systems, equipment and resources etc.
- Provide desktop support, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment.
Community Communication (10%)
- Work closely and cooperate with different departments as well as third party vendors to support / meet daily requirements of operations, courses, institutional asset management, etc. Eg. Facilities, IT, Finance, Asset Management, Procurement, vendors, etc.
