  • Position Summary

    This full-time, university staff position will focus on supporting students as they transition to university life, and developing programs that foster mutual understanding and intellectual exchange between students, faculty and staff with the goal of building a more cohesive campus climate. The ideal candidate must be a committed advocate for the advancement of multicultural organizational development, civil discourse and a positive and inclusive learning environment.

     

     Primary responsibilities  

    • Provide mentorship and support to students at risk, including first generations students, and students returning from leave.
    • Oversee student leadership development and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
    • Engage campus partners, including Academic Faculty Affairs and The Center for Teaching and Learning to develop workshops, training materials and other educational resources that advance integrity, respect, responsibility and engagement, campus wide.
    • Develop and maintain a trackable assessment system to evaluate the effectiveness of university wide initiatives.

     Additional Responsibilities 

    • Support the development of culturally appropriate educational programs in areas of health and wellness, sexual misconduct and healthy workplace environment.
    • Oversee the design of first year programming initiatives including orientation and Freshman Year Dialogue
    • Support the Office of Global Awards in identifying and developing student leaders.

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in a related field. PhD preferred

    Required Experience 

    • Proven track record (5-7 years) in designing and implementing programs that include educational awareness, training, and facilitation in areas of multicultural awareness and multicultural organizational development
    • Experience in presenting to, and facilitating conversations with diverse audiences.
    • Experience providing mentoring and support programs to populations at risk.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent oral and written English. Chinese competency preferred.
    • Ability to articulate a foundational understanding of multicultural awareness, knowledge and skills within the context of higher education, and more specifically within the context of our unique Sino-US educational partnership.
    • Understanding of the college student developmental model, and ability to apply the theory when facilitating a dialogue, or mentoring students.
    • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to perform independently as well as to collaborate with a team.
    • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
    • Master of Microsoft Office applications – Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) is preferred.
