  • Position Summary

    The program manager is responsible for the oversight of administrative staff and program operations for the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) at NYU Shanghai. A key part of that role involves developing and implementing administrative systems, policies, and procedures to ensure timely completion of administrative tasks and effective communication among faculty, staff, students, and other administrative offices. It also involves managing administrative tasks associated with faculty and student recruitment, as well as administrative, student, and faculty services for the efficient delivery of classroom and student support. In addition, the program manager contributes to strategic planning and development and participates in brainstorming about program expansion in Shanghai.


    The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) at NYU Shanghai serves the needs of the business and academic communities in Shanghai and beyond. Through educational content delivery that builds strong foundations and best practices for success in the emerging global marketplace, employees in both Chinese and international companies based in Shanghai can gain the competitive edge.


    The main responsibilities include:

    Operational Management and Support (40%)

    • Support the Director of NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai in all administrative and program delivery capacities
    • Manage all administrative and operational processes for NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai and other programs
    • Attend weekly meetings outside of working hours with leadership in New York
    • Develop effective working relationships with administrative offices at both NYU Shanghai and NYUSPS in New York to help achieve institutional goals and resolve problems
    • Manage and refine processes for registration, scheduling, enrollment, teaching assignments, classroom assignments, course/program evaluation, and other administrative needs
    • Facilitate course-related administrative support for faculty and students
    • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned

    Staff Supervision and Recruiting (35%)

    • Supervise full-time and part-time office staff to support the overall functions of the department, prioritizing work in accordance with department’s critical needs and deadlines
    • Manage administrative processes as related to faculty/staff recruitment and hiring

    Marketing and Event Management (25%)

    • Manage special student programs and events, including prospective student outreach events, alumni events, celebrations, and new student orientations
    • Assist NYUSPS team with marketing, promotion, and student recruitment
    • Ensure quality and consistency of content on the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai website as well as marketing materials for all program activity


    Required Education

    • Master’s degree in higher education administration, international education, international relations, business management or related field

    Required Experience

    • Minimum three years of administrative experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated success creating efficient processes, supervising staff, and motivating others to succeed
    • Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal/intercultural/communication skills
    • Ability to collaborate and work well within a team
    • Openness to change and ability to adapt as programs evolves
    • Ability to use databases (student information systems, personnel management systems, etc.) and use spreadsheet software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, etc.)
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
    • Willingness to occasionally work outside of regular business hours in order to communicate with international team members


    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

    • Planning and implementing administrative activities or services to students and/or faculty
    • Work in higher education and/or with international students
    • Fluency in Mandarin
