Academic Advisors assist students as they develop meaningful educational plans compatible with their life goals. They serve as a source of information about the degree requirements, policies, and procedures of the university and meet with students to discuss individualized academic questions and concerns. The advisors serve as a liaison with other offices on student cases and make referrals for students to university resources as appropriate. While the ultimate responsibility for making decisions about life and educational plans rests with each individual student, academic advisors assist students by suggesting options and by discussing possible outcomes of the choices they make.
The main responsibilities include:
o Helping students define and evaluate progress towards their own academic, career and life goals;
o Helping students understand curricular requirements, providing guidance during course selection, and providing help with identifying other meaningful educational experiences;
o Referring students to institutional and community support services for assistance if necessary;
o Monitoring students’ progress as they move through the undergraduate program.
