Visual artistic expression is a fundamentally creative human endeavor. Through the presentation of well-designed exhibitions and educational programs, the NYU Shanghai Art Gallery promotes aesthetic appreciation for and intellectual reflection about artistic expression. It adds further vibrancy to our community while deepening our presence in and of the city of Shanghai.
The Director of the Art Gallery provides administrative and artistic leadership for the NYU Shanghai Art Gallery. The Director plans and presents exhibitions, develops programs to engage members of the NYU Shanghai community with those exhibitions, and produces digital and print publications which extend the impact of those exhibitions beyond the time during which they are on display. The Director works with the NYU Shanghai development team to identify, cultivate, and steward supporters for the Gallery, and for the University more generally. The Director is responsible for long-range planning, budgeting, and operations of the Gallery.
If appropriate, the Director may also be a member of the teaching faculty, providing courses for NYU Shanghai students in subjects relating to the visual arts.
