Position Summary

NYU Shanghai is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic graduate student to serve as a Teaching Assistant for NEUR-SHU 201: Introduction to Neural Science during the Fall 2025 semester. Under the guidance of the course instructor, the TA will play a key role in facilitating student learning in a dynamic, discussion-based classroom that meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:15 am – 12:30 pm in Room S310.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Instructional & Grading Support

  • Grade problem sets (distributed two to three times per semester) and record grades on Brightspace and Gradescope
  • Assist with grading the midterm and final examinations
  • Proctor both in-class exams (midterm and final)
  • Coordinate regularly with the course instructor to discuss student progress and clarify grading rubrics

Student Engagement & Communication

  • Hold two hours of weekly office hours to review course material and answer questions
  • Respond promptly to student emails and Brightspace queries
  • Facilitate student learning by guiding group discussions or review sessions as needed

Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week on average

Qualifications

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD candidacy in Neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Prior teaching or TA experience (particularly in neuroscience or related biological sciences) preferred
