Position Summary

NYU Shanghai has an immediate opening for a laboratory technician to provide laboratory support.  The lab technician will assist in maintaining, developing, and operating the laboratories of NYUSH as directed and will report to the Director of Laboratories.

 

The main responsibilities include:

Lab safety (30%)

  • Assist Director of Laboratories, develop and implement laboratory safety operation rules and polices, related training and certification programs;
  • Follow supervision from Director of Laboratories, organize safety trainings, operations and authorize certifications to related personnel;
  • Collaborate with EHS, organize safety audit for laboratories in university wide;
  • Work with faculty, staff and students in labs, perform safe lab operation and research.
  • Observe laboratory operations and bring any security and safety concerns to the attention of the Director of Laboratories.

Laboratory Operation and facility works (30%)

  • Collaborate with Facilities and Property Management for infrastructure problems raised by laboratories;
  • Interface with end-user, Procurement, Facilities, Property management team and vendors to proceed projects and meet the requirement of end-user;
  • Interface with Public Safety, EHS, Risk Management and other internal departments for lab related matters;
  • Perform other relevant lab support duties.

Lab Documentation (20%)

  • Collect and document operation and safety information of university laboratories;
  • Collaborate with Chancellor Office, Provost Office, University Communication, Campus Safety and other university units, collect, summarize lab related information and draft required reports;
  • Assist senior lab staff, organize lab files and documentations.

Chemical management (10%)

  • Collaborate with EHS, perform lifelong management of hazardous chemicals in all laboratories, including purchase, receive, stock, usage, and disposal;
  • Manage chemical related documentation including MSDS, chemical usage records, chemical stock and treatment records etc.;
  • Collaborate with EHS and public safety, manage all chemicals under law and national policies.

Procurement (10%)

  • Assist in procurement requests from research labs for materials, supplies, and equipment;
  • Act as a central point of contact in Laboratories for a variety of activities such as the receipt of goods, the management of business processes, and is responsible for the accounting and bookkeeping of the Laboratories.

Qualifications

Required Education  

  • A bachelor’s degree in science or engineer is required.

Required Experience

  • At least 2 years' experience in Lab support or facility works.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Mandarin;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international and cross-cultural environment;
  • Good problem solving skills, and good time management skills;
  • High professional integrity and honesty;
  • Well organized, diplomatic, details and service oriented;
  • Knowledge/experience in project management, Lab facilities are add up.
