Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Admissions is based in Shanghai, China and is an integral member of the international admissions team. The Assistant Director, reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, will recruit extensively in assigned regions of the world (USA and international), build/nurture relationships with high schools, conduct outreach to new international students for NYU Shanghai, review applications for admission to NYU Shanghai and work closely with on-campus partners for event planning and management, and oversee the student ambassador and campus tour program. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for responding to incoming inquiries from prospective applicants to NYU Shanghai and managing our year-round virtual sessions.

 

The primary responsibilities include:

 

General Admissions (50%)

  • Conduct outreach within the United States and internationally to promote NYU Shanghai and recruit potential students;
  • Become an expert on examinations and grading scales of assigned regions;
  • Conduct specialized workshops, information sessions and school visits targeting international applicants;
  • Represent NYU Shanghai at regional events with stakeholder audiences, such as counselor events, conferences and exhibitions;
  • Review large numbers of international applications for admission to NYU Shanghai.

Manage the Student Ambassador Program (30%)

  • Oversee the international student ambassador program from hiring, training, programming, etc. and actively consider the structure of the program and the needs of the Undergraduate Admissions office;
  • Communicate and enforce expectations and ensure participation and growth opportunities for student ambassadors;
  • Partner with Admissions Marketing to utilize social media that engage student ambassadors with prospective students/admitted students;
  • Work with the finance office to facilitate payments for student ambassadors in China and abroad.

Plan/Implement Events (10%)

  • Host NYU Shanghai virtual bi-weekly information sessions and virtual weekly one-to-one coffee chats;
  • Plan, execute and oversee multiple aspects of yield, Candidate Weekend and other on-/off-campus events.

Additional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Data entry;
  • General office administration;
  • Additional projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred).

Required Experience

  • 1-3 years of administrative experience, preferably in higher education or admissions-related field (required);
  • 2+ years of personal or work experience in China, preferably related to secondary education systems (preferred);
  • Experience managing group of 15+ students (preferred).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and client service skills;
  • Excellent English speaking, writing and presentation skills;
  • Knowledge of US higher education and liberal arts curricula;
  • Ability to make thoughtful decisions in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to travel internationally as required, eg. 6-8 weeks in the fall and 2-3 weeks in the spring;
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly with Excel) and Google suite.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with NYU student services processes;
  • Proficiency in spoken Mandarin;
  • Experience using student-based CRM (i.e. Slate).
